Clarence Leroy Dake
Clarence was born on Jan.
31, 1880 in Eden Township, Benton Co., Iowa to parents Floyd Adelbert Dake and
Mary Catherine Young Dake. He married Nina F. Ellsworth. They farmed near Brandon
and Mt. Auburn, Ia. They were told that the land in Minnesota was less expensive
so they moved the family moved to Rush City, Minn. Once there they found that
the land would only support potatoes and no corn. Clarence was killed while
unloading sawdust from a wagon, with his sons Harold and Willis.. They were
cutting ice blocks and packing them in sawdust to preserve the ice. As they
kept unloading the sawdust from the large pile and digging further into the
pile, Clarence told Harold and Willis to stay near the wagon since it was getting
dangerous. The top of the sawdust pile had frozen over and as the sawdust underneather
was removed the top of the pile fell on Clarence and killed him. He died on
Feb. 12, 1926 in Rush City, Chisago Co., Minn. After his death his family moved
back to Benton Co., Ia. first to Floyd R. Dake's farm near Benton City where
most of the family lived in one small house during the Depression years and
later Clarence's mother, Mary Catherine (Young) Dake, purchased the family a
home in Urbana, IA, next to her own home, where Nina moved with her two youngest
sons; Lavene and Marvin. (Harold and Willis were already married.)

Harold Dake
Harold was
born in Mt. Auburn, Ia. on Dec. 24, 1901 to parents Clarence Dake and Nina F.
Ellsworth. On July 2, 1927 in Independence, Buchanan Co, Iowa, he married Erma
Grace Reid (born July a12, 1911 - died April 20, 1985) His occupation was a
Mechanic for Benton Co. Highway Commission. The family moved to Vinton, IA some
time before 1938. He retired in 1967. He was a member of the First Christian
Church in Vinton. He died in Vinton, Iowa on Apr. 24, 1983. He is buried in
Vinton, Iowa at Evergreen Cemetery.

Monica was born on Jan. 22, 1958 at Vinton, IA to parents Lyle Dake
and Marilyn (White) Dake. She married William Austin Durham on June 4, 1977
at Immanuel Baptist Chruch, Waukegan, Illinois. She received her Masters Degree and
was
a school psychologist in the San Bernadino, CA school system. They have children:
Jesse Austin (born Jan. 26, 1982 at Macomb, IL and in 2014 living in Hawaii).
Monica has retired and currently lives in Hawaii.

Melanie was born on May 29, 1961 to Lyle Dake and Marilyn (White) Dake
at Andrews AFB Hospital, Morningside, MD. She married John Charles DeMaria on
Oct. 16, 1993 at Great Falls Methodist Church, Great Falls, VA. She received
her Masters Degree and is a Deputy Marshall-Inspector with the US Marshall's
Service in Chicago, IL.

Joel was born on May 1, 1967 at the US Naval Hospital, Bethesda, MD
to parents Lyle Dake and Marilyn (White) Dake. Self taught professional musicians
and computer engineers. Joel works in the computer department at Good Samaritan
Hospital in Vincennes, IN.

Stephen Dwight Dake
Stephen was born on November 13, 1968 at the US Naval Hospital, Bethesda,
MD to parents Lyle Dake and Marilyn (White) Dake.
He married Kimberly Jo Bushue on Feb. 12, 1994 at Congregational United Church of Christ, Pekin, IL. He worked as a professional musician for a period of time and owned a painting company in Pekin, IL.
He studied Computer Science/Information Security and worked for various firms as a computer engineer (Information Security - IBM, EMC, Catepillar Inc., State Farm Insurance).
After serving in the US Army as an Infantry Soldier and an Intelligence Analyst, he moved his family to Cambridge, Wisconsin in 2005.
He has served as a member of the Board for the Village of Cambridge and is the Commander of the American Legion Post #195. He now works as a Computer/Information Security Consultant in Madison, WI, as owner of Stephen Dake Consulting, LLC.

and Erma Reid. He was first married in 1959 to Linda Kay Matheny and later on
Oct. 11, 1975 to Anne Eileen Lynch Williams. He was a driver for Concrete Ready
Mix in Vinton, Iowa and then worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation
for 15 years.

She was later adopted by Larry Dean Dake after Anne and Larry married.

Willis Ellsworth Dake
Willis was born in Mt. Auburn, Iowa on Feb. 1, 1909 to parents Clarence Dake
and Nina F. Ellsworth. During World War II he served his nation in the US Army
and reached the rank of Tech. 5. He was a member of the Geo. G. Luckey American
Legion Post #57 of Vinton. On August 3, 1930 he married Letha Reid at Eldora
and she preceded him in death on June 24, 1966. During the Depression, he worked
for the state constructing highways. He married Belva Johnson on June 8, 1968
at Vinton. Willis owned W.E. Dake Lime and Rock Products, which is now Coots
Materials Co., and operated heavy construction equipment. While living in Garrison
he served on the City Council. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church
in Vinton and enjoyed spending summer months in Guttenberg, IA and in Hardy,
Arkansas. He died at age 96, on Friday, November 9, 2007 at St. Luke's Hospital
in Cedar Rapids following an extended illness. Willis is survived by his wife,
Belva of Vinton. He was buried at Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton, IA.

Alice was born on Feb. 21, 1931 at Urbana, IA to parents Willis Dake
and Letha (Reid) Dake. She married Robert Curtis Byer on January 19, 1952 at
Vinton, IA. (He They had children: Robin Diane and Timothy Rober Byer.

Eva was born June 1, 1932 at Urbana, IA to parents Willis Dake and
Letha (Reid) Dake. She married Jack Fennern on March 24, 1951 (they divorced
March 6, 1969). They had children: Jack, Mickey, Debbie, Sherry and Joe Fennern.

Carol was born on Dec. 25, 1951 at Vinton, IA to parents Willis Dake
and Letha (Reid) Dake. She married Ron Rehder in 1979.(He died some time before
2007) They had children: Erin and Brooke Rehder. In 2007, she was living in
Blue Grass, Scott Co., IA.

Laverne was born on May 3, 1915 at Brandon, Buchanan, IA to parents Clarence
L. Dake and Nina F. (Ellsworth) Dake. On Feb. 6, 1939 he married Audrey Laverna
(Wisehart) Dennison in Vinton, IA. (She was born Apr. 26, 1920 and died on June
29, 1983) He served in World War II in the Army. He was a self employed carpenter
and bricklayer. He was a talented wood worker and specialized in making grandfather
clocks. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and going for walk in retirement. On
Aug. 1, 2005 he died at the Sunnycreast Nursing Home in Dysart at the age of
90 after an extended illness. Graveside services werre at 10:30 a.m. at Evergreen
Cemetery, Vinton by the Rev. Rose Blank. Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton was
in charge of arrangements. He was survived by his daughter, Roseanne Rogers
and husband Bob, and his brother Willis Dake and wife Belva all of Vinton. In
addition to his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughters,
Donna, Karen and Martha; his son, Nile and his brothers, Harold and Marvin.
Laverne Clarence Dake Obituary
Laverne Dake 90, died Monday, Aug. 1, 2005 in Sunnycreast Nursing Home, Dysert, following an extended illness. Graveside services: 10:20 a.m. Thursday, Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton, by the Rev. Rose Blank. Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived
by his daughter, Roseanne Rogers and husband Bob, and his brother Willis Dake
and wife Belva, all of Vinton. In addition to his wife and his parents, he was
preceded in death by his daughters Donna, Karen and Martha; his son Nile; and
his brothers, Harold and Marvin.

Marvin Edward Dake
Marvin was born on Nov. 26, 1917 in Mora, Minn. to parents Clarence Dake and
Nina F. Ellsworth. He married Minnie Mathilde Larsen on Sept. 27, 1945 in Maquoketa,
Iowa. He has worked for the County Highway Commission as a Road Maintainer and
was Town Marshall for Dysart, Iowa. He died on July 13, 2001 at Dysart, IA.
AHAHBBB. Floyd Roscoe Dake
Floyd was born on Nov. 1, 1881
in Eden Township, Benton Co., Iowa to parents Floyd Adelbert Dake and Mary Catherine
Young Dake. He quit school after the 8th grade. On Oct. 4, 1905 in Cedar Rapids,
Linn Co., Iowa he married Blanche P. Meskimen. (Blanche, the daughter of Lewis
Meskimen and Louise (Tharp) Dake). His parents owned a farm near Urbana and
what was previously Benton City. When his parents moved into Vinton from the
farm, Floyd and his brother Lewis Carl stayed on the farm. In the 1915 Census
he was listed as living in Vinton, Iowa. In 1917 he and his wife Blanche were
listed as leasing 72 acres in Section 30, Benton Township, Benton Co., IA from
John Young (his maternal grandfather). Floyd and his family lived on a farm
until 1945 when they moved to Vinton. He died on Sept. 27, 1956, after being
ill for three years.

Dake
John was born on July 4, 1906 at Mt. Auburn, Ia. to parents Floyd R. Dake
and Blanche F. Meskimen. He married Pauline Trego on July 2, 1927 at Independence,
Ia. and was later divorced. He lived for a period of time at Central City, Iowa
where he farmed and for a short time was Justice of the Peace. He was married
a second time to Retha Betzer and was divorced. He was a salesman for Farmers
Supply Co. in Vinton for many years retiring in 1971. After retiring he moved
to Port Charlotte, Florida (He married third time to Ethel Davis on May 6, 1961.)
He was a resident of Palm View Care Center in Port Charlotte, Fla. from March
1988 until his death on Oct. 10, 1988. He was buried on Oct. 13, 1988 at Evergreen
Cemetery in Vinton, Ia.
Obituary for Pauline (Trego) Dake
Pauline Dake 94, a resident of The Meth-Wick Community , died Monday Nov. 3, 2003 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long and happy life. Services: 1 p.m. Thursday, Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by the Rev. Nick Longworth. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial: Spring Grove Cemetery rural Coggon.
Survivors include her children, Raymond (Rosemary) Dake of Fairfield, Evalyn (Ron) Moorehead of Maple Valley, Wash., Mary Lou Bell of San Antonio, Texas, Dorothy (Dean) Locke of Coggon, Lois Sparks of State Center, Iowa, Delbert (Elizabeth) Dake of Marion, a sister Marie Kothman of St. Cloud, Minn.: 17 grandchildren, 35 great-grand children and a great-great grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, three grandsons and a great grandson.
Pauline was born March 31, 1909, the daughter of Sherman W. and Henrietta (Bogle) Trego in rural Shellsburg. She was proud to have been a farmer her entire life.
Pauline was an active
member of Spring Grove United Methodist Church in Coggon, a member of the Farm
Bureau, was a conselor of MYF, and cooked at YMCA Camp Wapsi for many years.
Pauline was a member of the Linn County Dairy Herdsman Associaton.

Floyd was born in 1914
at Vinton, IA to parents Floyd Roscoe Dake and Blanche P. (Meskimen) Dake. He
was married on March 25, 1933 to Beaulah Catherine Kizer. (Beulah was born Feb.
6, 1913, to Abraham and Mary Jane (nee Covington) Kizer. Beulah graduated from
Vinton High School in 1928. Beulah worked at Birds Hardware store and for the
Benton Co. School Board) . They farmed in the Vinton area until 1955. He was
a carpenter and worked with his brother Lawrence until they both moved to Pt.
Charlotte, Fla In 1970, they moved to Port Charlotte. Beaulah worked for the
Charlotte County School Board until 1977, when she retired. .Floyd died in 1991
at Port Charlotte, FL. Beulah returned to Vinton, IA in 2005. Beulah died Saturday,
July 25, 2009, at Virginia Gay Nursing & Rehab in Vinton, Iowa, at age 96,
following an extended illness

Arleigh was born on April 6, 1889
in Eden Township, Benton Co., Iowa to parents Floyd Adelbert Dake and Mary Catherine
Young Dake. He finished the 10th grade and then quit school. In 1910 he was
listed as a hiredman for Fred L. Averhoff. On March 12, 1913 he married Ida
Calkins in Vinton, Benton Co., Iowa. In the 1915 Census Arleigh and his family
were listed as farming near Brandon, Iowa. Around 1919 he must have lived for
a short time in Lousiana, as his daughter was born there. He lived in Mt. Auburn,
Iowa for 32 years and worked for the Benton Co. Highway Commission as a road
maintainer before moving to California to retire (some time after 1956). He
died in Dec. 1983 in Long Beach, Calif. His sister Nira, later told a story
about Arleigh," When Arleigh was young he was taught very strict manners, which
included not to ask for things. At Grandmothers Dake's house he once said "If
I was home I would be eating." This got the point across without his asking
for food.
